SENATE PRESIDENT AND HOUSE SPEAKER ANNOUNCE APPOINTMENTS TO THE MARYLAND HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE PROTECTION COMMISSION
 
Annapolis, MD – Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., and House Speaker Michael E. Busch announced today their appointments to the Maryland Health Insurance Coverage Protection Commission.
 
Created by Senate Bill 571, the Commission will monitor and assess the impact of potential and actual federal changes to the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, Maryland’s Children Health Program (CHIP) and Medicare. The Commission will provide recommendations for State and local action to protect the access of residents of the State to affordable health coverage. SB571 was presented to Governor Hogan during the 2017 legislative session and became law without his signature
 
Members of the Commission include:
 
·        House Chair: Delegate Joseline Pena-Melnyk
·        Senate Chair: Senator Brian Feldman
·        Senate members: Senators Thomas “Mac” Middleton and Senator Delores Kelley Kelley
·        House members: Delegate Kirill Reznik and Delegate Chris West
·        MHA representative: Carmela Coyle
·        MCO representative appointed by Miller and Busch: Donna M. Carris, President & CEO of United Healthcare of the Mid-Atlantic, Inc.
·        Consumer of health care services appointed by Miller and Busch:  Jamal Lee
·        Health Insurance Carrier appointed by Miller and Busch: Deborah Rivkin, Carefirst
·        Behavioral health provider representative appointed by Miller and Busch: Lori Doyle
·        Member of the public appointed by Miller and Busch: Vinny DeMarco, Healthcare For All
 
The Commission will report back to the Legislature at the end of each calendar year with findings and recommendations. Governor Hogan has 3 additional appointments to the Commission.
